Interlock/no interlock: (§9.3.9) A 5% reduction is applied to the efficiency of gas and oil boiler systems unless an interlock is provided. The interlock is not a physical device, rather an arrangement of controls and wiring that stop the boiler firing unless the heating or h.w. cylinder require heat. If you select an option that requires a cylinder stat but do not check the box on the DHW page of this dialog, SuperHeat will check the box for you and display a appropriate notification. If no cylinder stat is fitted, select a control option that does not include an interlock.

Zone control: (§9.3.12) This denotes a control system which can independently control the temperature and heating time in each zone. This will require separate heating circuits, each with its own programmer or a multi-channel programmer - TRV's do not constitute zone control. The zones do not need to correspond with the division that defines the living room fraction.

A boiler energy manager (§9.3.11) senses the boiler flow and return temperatures and uses these to determine the optimum firing pattern; the simpler ones may just defer firing until the return temperature has fallen significantly, thus causing the boiler to fire less often but for longer periods, thus increasing efficiency.

A delayed start thermostat (§9.3.5) delays the initial switch-on time if the room temperature has not fallen as much as usual during the off-period, but it does not advance the switch-on time during very cold weather.

Weather and/or load compensators (§9.3.13-14) adjust the temperature of the water circulating through the heating system depending on the external or internal temperature. The Compensator check box is only enabled where a condensing boiler or combi is selected, as the presence or absence of a compensator does not affect the SAP calculations with other system types. Do not check the Compensator box where a modulating boiler with no additional compensator is installed.

Storage systems heated by electricity

Automatic charge control (electric storage systems) adjusts the charging of the storage heater according to the room temperature.

CELECT-type systems have a central controller which monitors room temperatures and determines the optimum amount of charge to be given to storage heaters, using normal electric heaters where necessary.
